Minutes of Golf Section Committee Meeting
Held at Backworth Hall on the 7th January 2015
Minutes of Previous Meeting
The minutes of the previous meeting, having been circulated, were taken as read and adopted on the proposal of Mr Harvey and seconded by Mr Carruthers.
There were no matters arising
There was no correspondence
The secretary reported that the tee box yardage disks had arrived from Bay Plastics and would be fixed permanently in place before the start of the summer season.
No correspondence had been received from England Golf regarding the standard scratch assessment.
The captain elect Mr Robinson had volunteered to price hiring of essential grass cutting equipment and the secretary was requested to raise this matter with the course superintendant Mr Himlin. Mr Himlin prefers to keep this in-house, however any decision to take Mr Robinson up on his offer would ultimately have to be decided by the Welfare Manager and the Trustees.
After the recent mixed fours meeting all parties had agreed that they would have a fixed tee time but only on those Sundays when the men and ladies also had the course booked.
The Golf Account for 2014 has been submitted for audit.
The Handicap Master Renewal will be due on 23 January. Total cost will be £288.
The charity donation of £250 has still to be paid to the Prostate Cancer Charity.
Monies are coming in from membership renewal which was due on the 1st January.
The NUGC and England Golf payments are due. Last year we paid £2881; there has been no increase so our payment should be about the same. The breakdown is: NUGC £3.50 per member; The EGU £7.25; in total £10.75. This represents 44% of the individual golf levy of £25.
Members are reminded that these payments are an individual commitment which the golf committee pay on their behalf out of a members £25 levi, leaving a total of £14.25 per person for administrative costs.
The Treasurer requested that the Club Captain and the Seniors' Organiser do their best to ensure that we are paying for meals for the actual number eating them. He acknowledged the difficulty of this.
There was no welfare report
Handicap Secretary’s Report.
All competitions are running to schedule and the Texas scramble on Boxing Day was well attended although the Muckhart was still poorly attended compared to recent years.
There was no captains report
Senior Organisers Report
There was no senior organisers report
Any other Business
It was proposed by Mr Renwick and seconded by Mr Beadling that the Trustees be approached to offer Herbie Meldrum Honorary Life Membership of Backworth.
A discussion took place about the Winter League:
The committee voted unanimously to award trophies to the best qualifiers of this league and the winners and runners up of the knockout stages of the league, however no monetary award will be made.
Proposed by R.A Burdess and seconded by J. Beadling
Occasionally members fail to turn up for the Winter League, placing an unnecessary burden on those who attend. All members are reminded that entering names on the sheet at the start of the winter season commits them to playing throughout the season unless the is a valid reason for not doing so. Any member who cannot attend should make every effort to contact their playing partners before the match.
If this trend continues the committee may consider some form of points deduction to those teams involved.
This matter will be raised at our AGM on the 13th of February under A.O.B.
The venue for the A.G.M will be decided at the February meeting.
The secretary submitted a “notice of motion” for the A.G.M
The following notice of motion has been received and will be voted on at the Annual General Meeting
We the undersigned wish to propose the following:-
That the winter Muckhart competition by changed from a strokeplay competition to a stableford competition from the 2015/2016 season
