Handicap Secretary’s Report.
Mr A Pearson thanked Herbie Meldrum and Malcolm McLean for assisting him with the changeover of handicap secretary.
He went on to inform the committee that the Muckhart was up to date and 6 members were still in the running for the title. The Winter League had been won by Paul Liversidge and Maurice Guthrie.
He requested that the summer 9 hole competition start on Easter Monday and that it be run as a bar sweep until the official competition starts on Wednesday 30th March. The committee agreed to this.
The Captain thanked all members for taking part in the texas scramble and supporting him during his drive-in.
Unfortunately Backworth had been narrowly beaten by Whitley Bay in the Mail on Sunday Classic.
The proposed friendly matches between Hunley Hall and Backworth had been cancelled due to lack of interest however it was hoped that this competition could be played sometime in the future.
He reminded the committee that his Captains Night was on Saturday 19th March.
Senior Organisers Report
Mr Harvey reported that the first game of the season would be a friendly against Wallsend at home and the first league match would be on the 14th April, home to Whitley Bay. There would also be a friendly match between Backworth Seniors A team and B team. Mr Harvey was confident that the A team would prevail under his leadership.
Any other Business
Mr Beadling reported that he had received correspondence from David Beardall indicating that there would be no junior patrons booklets in 2016. The David Beardall Trophy was to be held at Foxton this year. He requested that if any members of the committee wished to play in the competition they should contact him.
Mr Pearson enquired whether the golf committee were aware of any plans to provide buggy paths around the course. The committee were not aware of any plans to upgrade the course to make it more suitable for buggy access however Mr Carruthers was requested to raise the matter at the next Trustees meeting.
Mr Milton suggested that the 5 year rolling program for the course appeared to have fallen into disuse. He requested that this matter be brought up at the next Trustees meeting.
A discussion took place about the upcoming 9 hole competitions . The secretary explained that the format suggested was the same as the winter bar 9 hole competition which had been very successful i.e. £2 initial entry fee and £1 per competition sweep.
The £2 entry fee would be used to purchase 2 trophies at the end of the season and the £1 sweep would be paid back to the members for 1st and 2nd place.
The Chairman concluded the meeting by congratulating Peter Thompson and Neil Gascoigne and hoped their year as Captain and Vice Captain would be an enjoyable one.
