Minutes of Golf Section Committee Meeting

Held at Backworth Hall on the 10th May 2017

Matters Arising.

Mr N Gascoigne asked whether anything had been done to dissuade dog walkers from bringing dogs onto Welfare land.

Signs have been erected requesting that dogs are kept on a lead however Mr Gascoigne believed that more needed to be done. This matter will be raised at the next Trustees meeting.

Correspondence

Apologies had been received from two members who had failed to show for club competitions. As this had not impacted on any other members it was decided to take no further action.

Secretary’s update

The rules of the Graham Willis Trophy were finalised with the 8 best players in the club championship being invited to play in a knockout competition.

The club website was due for renewal at a cost of £284 for 2 years. The committee agreed that this should be renewed.

Treasurer’s Report

The Treasurer advised that the current account is £7184.

Receipts from Golf Levies: £4520 (226 members)

Receipts from competitions to date: £1898.30 which equates with receipts this time last year.

The phone bill for the first quarter is £87 .43 and we have been advised that charges will go up this year.

Team Meals for April are £465. (2x seniors, 1 x Team). He thanked the captain for keeping the cost down to 17 players for the match on 20 April.

Handicap Secretary’s Report.

The handicap secretary reported that although the majority of competitions were well represented there was little interest shown in some of our Sunday competitions. It was suggested that nine hole competitions could be played on a Sunday. This will be added to the agenda for discussion before the 2018 fixture books are finalised.

Captain’s Report

In the first league game of the season Backworth were beaten 10-2 at Prudhoe however Prudhoe have amassed an extremely strong team for 2017 and most clubs will find it difficult to beat them.

Senior Organisers Report

Backworth have played 3 games so far this season winning 7-5 away to last year’s league champions Ponteland then an 8-4 win at home to Westerhope however away to Tynemouth we were beaten 9-3

2 internal senior competitions have been played which were well represented.

Any other Business

The Chairman enquired whether funds could be made available to assist juniors with their fees in 2018. This proposal will be discussed further before fees become due in 2018.
